By default, EndeavourOS uses LightDM for the log-in, and uses the lightdm-gtk-greeter. There is absolutely nothing wrong with lightdm-gtk-greeter, but if you\u2019re like me and just have to tinker around, here is how to play around with lightdm-slick-greeter.<\/p>\n

Open a terminal window, and as root install lightdm-slick-greeter and lightdm-settings from the AUR using yay
\n# yay -S lightdm-slick-greeter
\nTell it to erase compiler only dependencies so it cleans up after itself.
\n# yay -S lightdm-settings
\nNow you should have 2 lightdm greeters installed. To see,
\n# ls -l \/usr\/share\/xgreeters (This should list a .desktop file for each greeter)
\n-rw-r\u2013r– 1 root root 187 Sep 30 2018 lightdm-gtk-greeter.desktop
\n-rw-r\u2013r– 1 root root 131 Jul 11 20:50 lightdm-slick-greeter.desktop
\nHere is how you determine which lightdm greeter is active, lightdm-gtk-greeter is default
\nopen mousepad as root
\n# mousepad \/etc\/lightdm\/lightdm.conf
\nscroll down past \u201cGeneral Configuration\u201d, down to \u201cSeat Configuration\u201d and then to the line
\n[Seat:*]
\nAbout sixteen lines below this is the \u201cgreeter-session\u201d key (they call the config settings \u201ckeys\u201d)
\n#greeter-session=example-gtk-gnome
\nThe # indicates a comment, so this key is disabled and it uses the default of lightdm-gtk-greeter
\nSo we need to uncomment this key by removing the # then specify the greeter to use
\ngreeter-session=lightdm-slick-greeter (for the slick-greeter)
\nOR, but not both
\ngreeter-session=lightdm-gtk-greeter (for the gtk-greeter)
\nsave the file. Next, as root open mousepad again
\n# mousepad \/etc\/lightdm\/slick-greeter.conf This file will not exist, so mousepad will create it
\nadd the following lines to slick-greeter.conf:<\/p>\n

[Greeter]
\ndraw-grid=false
\nbackground=\/usr\/share\/backgrounds\/xfce\/blue-mystic-logo.png<\/p>\n

change background= to whatever background file you desire. Then save the file.
\nNow reboot (yes it\u2019s necessary) the computer for this to take effect.
\nblue-mystic.png is available here, right click on it and \u201cSave Image As\u201d<\/p>\n

Then as root, move it to \/usr\/share\/backgrounds\/xfce<\/p>\n

After you reboot, Click on \u201cEndeavourOS\u201d on the panel, then \u201cSettings\u201d and you will see \u201cLightdm GTK+ Greeter Settings\u201d and below it \u201cLogin Window\u201d. Use Lightdm GTK+ Greeter Settings” for the gtk-greeter, and \u201cLogin Window\u201d for lightdm-slick-greeter, which ever is active.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
