This is not a Manjaro issue.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"md-end-block md-p\"><span class=\"md-plain\">Although Manjaro is very close to Arch Linux and mostly compatible \u2014being based on Arch Linux itself\u2014 it is not possible to access their official repositories for use in Manjaro. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"md-end-block md-p\"><span class=\"md-plain\">Instead, Manjaro uses its own repositories in order to ensure that any software packages that are accessible, such as system updates and applications, have been fully tested to be compatible and stable before release. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"md-end-block md-p\"><span class=\"md-plain\">It is still possible to access additional software packages from the <\/span><span class=\"md-pair-s \"><em><span class=\"md-meta-i-c  md-link\"><a href=\"https:\/\/wiki.archlinux.org\/index.php\/AUR\"><span class=\"md-plain\">Arch User Repository<\/span><\/a><\/span><\/em><\/span><span class=\"md-plain\"> (AUR). <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"md-end-block md-p\"><span class=\"md-plain\">The AUR is managed by the Arch Linux user community itself. Although this repository is unofficial, software packages first placed here can eventually make their way into Arch Linux&#8217;s official (community) repository if they become popular enough. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"md-end-block md-p\"><span class=\"md-pair-s \"><strong><span class=\"md-plain\">AUR, as a community maintained repository, present potential risks and problems.<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"md-end-block md-p\"><span class=\"md-plain\">Possible risks using AUR packages: <\/span><\/p>\n<ul class=\"ul-list\" data-mark=\"-\">\n<li class=\"md-list-item\">\n<p class=\"md-end-block md-p\"><span class=\"md-plain\">Multiple versions of the same packages. <\/span><\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li class=\"md-list-item\">\n<p class=\"md-end-block md-p\"><span class=\"md-plain\">Out of date packages. <\/span><\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li class=\"md-list-item\">\n<p class=\"md-end-block md-p\"><span class=\"md-plain\">Broken or only partially working packages. <\/span><\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li class=\"md-list-item\">\n<p class=\"md-end-block md-p\"><span class=\"md-plain\">Improperly configured packages which download unnecessary dependencies, or do not download necessary dependencies, or both. <\/span><\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li class=\"md-list-item\">\n<p class=\"md-end-block md-p\"><span class=\"md-plain\">Malicious packages (although extremely rare). <\/span><\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p class=\"md-end-block md-p\"><span class=\"md-plain\"> As such, although much of the software packages provided by the AUR should work, do not expect the installation process to always be quite as straight-forward as when you are using the official Manjaro repositories. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"md-end-block md-p\"><span class=\"md-plain\">On occasion, it may be necessary to manually identify and install dependencies yourself (such as, after an aborted installation attempt). <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"md-end-block md-p\"><span class=\"md-pair-s \"><strong><span class=\"md-plain\">Again, there is no guarantee that any installed software will work properly, if at all.<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<h1 class=\"md-end-block md-heading\"><span class=\"md-plain\">Accessing the AUR<\/span><\/h1>\n<h2 class=\"md-end-block md-heading\"><span class=\"md-plain\">Using GUI <\/span><span class=\"md-meta-i-c  md-link\"><a href=\"https:\/\/wiki.manjaro.org\/index.php?title=Pamac\"><span class=\"md-plain\">Pamac<\/span><\/a><\/span><\/h2>\n<p class=\"md-end-block md-p\"><span class=\"md-plain\">Open Pamac &#8211; the name in menu is <\/span><span class=\"md-pair-s \"><em><span class=\"md-plain\">Add\/Remove Software<\/span><\/em><\/span><span class=\"md-plain\"> and navigate to the Preferences page. You will be required to enter your password to access it. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"md-end-block md-p\"><span class=\"md-plain\">At Preferences page \u2192 select the AUR tab \u2192 and move the slider to enable AUR. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"md-end-block md-p\">\n<h2 class=\"md-end-block md-heading\"><span class=\"md-plain\">Using commandline <\/span><span class=\"md-meta-i-c  md-link\"><a href=\"https:\/\/wiki.manjaro.org\/index.php?title=Pamac\"><span class=\"md-plain\">Pamac<\/span><\/a><\/span><\/h2>\n<p class=\"md-end-block md-p\"><span class=\"md-pair-s \"><strong><span class=\"md-plain\">Tip:<\/span><\/strong><\/span><span class=\"md-plain\"> It is recommended to first visit the and examine the relevant page(s) for any and all software intended to be installed. The AUR website can be found <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"md-end-block md-p\"><span class=\"md-plain\">To search for and install software packages from the AUR, the syntax is: <\/span><\/p>\n<pre class=\"md-fences md-end-block ty-contain-cm modeLoaded\" lang=\"\"><span role=\"presentation\">pamac search -a [software package name]<\/span><\/pre>\n<p class=\"md-end-block md-p\"><span class=\"md-plain\">For example, if wishing to install <\/span><span class=\"md-pair-s \"><em><span class=\"md-plain\">Vivaldi<\/span><\/em><\/span><span class=\"md-plain\"> enter <\/span><span class=\"md-pair-s \"><em><span class=\"md-plain\">vivaldi<\/span><\/em><\/span><span class=\"md-plain\"> as the query and a list of potential matches is shown. To build the example with <\/span><span class=\"md-pair-s \"><strong><span class=\"md-plain\">pamac<\/span><\/strong><\/span><span class=\"md-plain\"> enter the following and press enter <\/span><\/p>\n<pre class=\"md-fences md-end-block ty-contain-cm modeLoaded\" lang=\"\"><span role=\"presentation\">pamac build vivaldi<\/span><\/pre>\n<p class=\"md-end-block md-p\"><span class=\"md-plain\">You will be presented with the outcome of the chosen build with all dependencies and you will be asked a couple of questions. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"md-end-block md-p\"><span class=\"md-plain\">\\1. Query to edit build files. This is a precaution to verify that the build scripts does not contain malicious actions. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"md-end-block md-p\"><span class=\"md-plain\">\\2. Query to continue download and install dependencies then download the sources, build and install the app. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"md-end-block md-p\"><span class=\"md-plain\">You will be asked for your password before anything happens. <\/span><\/p>\n<h2 class=\"md-end-block md-heading\"><span class=\"md-plain\">Using GUI <\/span><span class=\"md-meta-i-c  md-link\"><a href=\"https:\/\/wiki.manjaro.org\/index.php?title=Octopi\"><span class=\"md-plain\">Octopi<\/span><\/a><\/span><\/h2>\n<p class=\"md-end-block md-p\"><span class=\"md-plain\">See <\/span><span class=\"md-meta-i-c  md-link\"><a href=\"https:\/\/wiki.manjaro.org\/index.php?title=Octopi#Accessing_the_AUR\"><span class=\"md-plain\">this guide<\/span><\/a><\/span><span class=\"md-plain\"> for enabling AUR support in Octopi. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"md-end-block md-p\">\n<h1 class=\"md-end-block md-heading\"><span class=\"md-plain\">Installing from the AUR by hand<\/span><\/h1>\n<h2 class=\"md-end-block md-heading\"><span class=\"md-plain\">Manual<\/span><\/h2>\n<p class=\"md-end-block md-p\"><span class=\"md-plain\">To do that follow the steps given below: <\/span><\/p>\n<ul class=\"ul-list\" data-mark=\"-\">\n<li class=\"md-list-item\">\n<p class=\"md-end-block md-p\"><span class=\"md-plain\">Be sure you have the necessary files for building applications from source <\/span><\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<pre class=\"md-fences md-end-block ty-contain-cm modeLoaded\" lang=\"\"><span role=\"presentation\">pamac install base-devel git<\/span><\/pre>\n<ul class=\"ul-list\" data-mark=\"-\">\n<li class=\"md-list-item\">\n<p class=\"md-end-block md-p\"><span class=\"md-plain\">Download the tarball from the AUR preferably to <\/span><span class=\"md-pair-s \"><em><span class=\"md-plain\">~\/Downloads<\/span><\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p class=\"md-end-block md-p\"><span class=\"md-plain\">(just click on the tarball from your browser and you should get it) <\/span><\/p>\n<ul class=\"ul-list\" data-mark=\"-\">\n<li class=\"md-list-item\">\n<p class=\"md-end-block md-p\"><span class=\"md-plain\">Make a sub-directory in downloads called builds: <\/span><\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<pre class=\"md-fences md-end-block ty-contain-cm modeLoaded\" lang=\"\"><span role=\"presentation\">mkdir ~\/Downloads\/builds<\/span><\/pre>\n<p class=\"md-end-block md-p\"><span class=\"md-plain\">&#8212; Move the tarball to builds (Note that foo is a placeholder for the actual name of the package you&#8217;ve downloaded): <\/span><\/p>\n<pre class=\"md-fences md-end-block ty-contain-cm modeLoaded\" lang=\"\"><span role=\"presentation\">mv foo.tar.gz builds<\/span><\/pre>\n<p class=\"md-end-block md-p\"><span class=\"md-plain\">&#8212; Change directory to the builds folder- <\/span><\/p>\n<pre class=\"md-fences md-end-block ty-contain-cm modeLoaded\" lang=\"\"><span role=\"presentation\">cd builds<\/span><\/pre>\n<p class=\"md-end-block md-p\"><span class=\"md-plain\">&#8212; Untar the tarball <\/span><\/p>\n<pre class=\"md-fences md-end-block ty-contain-cm modeLoaded\" lang=\"\"><span role=\"presentation\">tar -xvf foo.tar.gz<\/span><\/pre>\n<p class=\"md-end-block md-p\"><span class=\"md-plain\">&#8212; Move into the new sub-directory <\/span><\/p>\n<pre class=\"md-fences md-end-block ty-contain-cm modeLoaded\" lang=\"\"><span role=\"presentation\">cd &lt;foo&gt;<\/span><\/pre>\n<p class=\"md-end-block md-p\">\n<ul class=\"ul-list\" data-mark=\"-\">\n<li class=\"md-list-item\">\n<p class=\"md-end-block md-p\"><span class=\"md-plain\">To make\/compile the package, run: <\/span><\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<pre class=\"md-fences md-end-block ty-contain-cm modeLoaded\" lang=\"\"><span role=\"presentation\">makepkg -s<\/span><\/pre>\n<p class=\"md-end-block md-p\"><span class=\"md-plain\">This will build the package and pull in any dependencies needed. <\/span><span class=\"md-pair-s \"><em><span class=\"md-plain\">Note: it won&#8217;t pull a dependency from the AUR, only from the Manjaro Repos.<\/span><\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"md-end-block md-p\"><span class=\"md-plain\">If you run <\/span><\/p>\n<pre class=\"md-fences md-end-block ty-contain-cm modeLoaded\" lang=\"\"><span role=\"presentation\">  ls<\/span><\/pre>\n<p class=\"md-end-block md-p\"><span class=\"md-plain\">you&#8217;ll probably find a few new files. You&#8217;re interested in the one that ends with .pkg.tar.xz (usually) <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"md-end-block md-p\">\n<ul class=\"ul-list\" data-mark=\"-\">\n<li class=\"md-list-item\">\n<p class=\"md-end-block md-p\"><span class=\"md-plain\">The final event is running $sudo pacman -U on that file- <\/span><\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<pre class=\"md-fences md-end-block ty-contain-cm modeLoaded\" lang=\"\"><span role=\"presentation\">sudo pacman -U foo.pkg.xz<\/span><\/pre>\n<p class=\"md-end-block md-p\"><span class=\"md-plain\">And you&#8217;ve done it&#8230;the safest way to install from the AUR. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"md-end-block md-p\"><span class=\"md-plain\">This is essentially what most install scripts do for you. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"md-end-block md-p\"><span class=\"md-pair-s \"><em><span class=\"md-plain\">Note:<\/span><\/em><\/span><span class=\"md-plain\"> Instead of using <\/span><span class=\"md-pair-s \"><em><span
